Advocacy, Progression, Update...
Advocacy, Progression, Update...

It has been a while since I have posted and I thought an update was in order. Unfortunately, Jill has continued to progress. She appears more confused, more frequently. She often struggles with following simple one step instructions and I worry that her self care is slipping. This of course ebbs and flows, but the trend is negative. She recently hurt her back through over-exertion in her spin class (crunches and weights were probably not a good idea). This has increased her distractibility and inattention. She continues to go to the Weinstein Center and appears to enjoy this. She also has a home health care worker, Annette who is with her on Wednesdays.
I recently went to the Georgia Legislature for Alzheimer’s Awareness Day to advocate for legislation helpful to individuals and families struggling with dementia. A sea of purple descended over the legislature as over 400 folks gathered to address their legislators! With this disease, there is so much helplessness, it is good to do something active. I hope to continue to be involved.
I have also recently been a part of talks with the folks at the Emory Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center in an effort to improve their services. My role here has to share the viewpoint of the consumer of services in an attempt to raise the bar for services available to individuals and families. I hope to be able to say more about this in time!
I have posted a new page from the LA Times with two very touching videos on my links page. Take a look if you have the time.
We continue to travel down this road that none of us have chosen. We still try to dance and revel in the moments we are given. I want to thank all of you who have kept us in your thoughts, prayers, and presence. Your caring and generosity matter so much to Jill and I. Thank you!
