…I have many [recollections] but for me they are hard to capture in words. I realize as I think through my experiences with Jill over the course of our relationship, I can certainly list things we did, conversations we had, laughs we shared but what stands out most for me is the feeling of being in her presence. To me, Jill's quiet, calm demeanor, her ready laugh, her interest in information about children (both major stuff and the minor details), her love of nature and dogs, and her unfailing good nature, created a feeling of "Jillness" that I don't feel capable of fully articulating.
One vivid memory I have is of Jill as a young mother in your house in Doraville. I remember Stephen's face as he watched her and I remember that Jill had callouses on the tops of her feet from kneeling on the floor so often in her efforts to be close to Stephen as he crawled around. Through the years, I remember her as an incredibly patient, calm mother who always had a ready smile for her boys (and mine as well). Jill's delight in the presence of children and her ready laughter at whatever they did stands out in my mind.
